The founder of The Body Is Not An Apology digital platform wants to change the world, by changing our relationship with ourselves

EHF Fellow Sonya Renee Taylor

EHF Fellow Sonya Renee Taylor believes that the potential for a more just, equitable and compassionate world resides in our relationships with our bodies. A performance artist by trade, Sonya is now the Founder and Radical Executive Officer of The Body Is Not An Apology, which started as a social media phenomenon, and is now a digital media and education platform focused on transforming self-love into a positive global force.

Watch Sonya’s powerful performance of the poem that launched the movement at the Edmund Hillary Fellowship’s (EHF) New Frontiers summit in Waiuku last year:

It is Sonya’s strong belief that: “We can’t create an equitable world if we don’t build from the heart. We need to build the infrastructure inside of ourselves first”.

With this belief at the centre of her work, she has used the knowledge gained by The Body Is Not An Apology movement to launch a book of the same name that lays a foundation for how we can make peace with difference and learn to make a world that works for every body.

Sonya is looking for connections to writers and visual artists who would be interested in contributing content to her platform about body, identity, and social justice from a uniquely Aotearoa perspective. Sonya also conducts trainings and workshops for technological innovators interested in creating a just and equitable world.
